License key
How to paste a license key and check that it is still valid.
The License key is what lets you play paid tunes. You do not register an email address inside the app (Forum membership is separate. Forum uses email and a password on the Forum screen).
Paste it
- Open Settings at the top right of Feelism
- At the top, under Billing, press Edit to unlock the field (it starts read-only)
- Paste the key into the License key field
- Press Apply (the field goes back to read-only)
Feelism asks the server. If the key is valid, a line under the field says something like “License is valid until (date). It will renew automatically.”
If you do not have one yet, press New subscription (you cannot press it when a valid key is already there). A payment page (Stripe) opens in the browser. When payment finishes, the key arrives at the email address you used to pay. That email is your copy. The key does not appear on the completion screen. The server does not store the key itself, so it cannot show it again.
When you do not have a valid key yet, a line under the field says “A subscription lets you play imported tunes. Extra standards open too. Charts stay visible without paying.” You can read charts without paying. Only playback is locked.
Copy the key from the email, paste it into the field above, and press Apply.
The shape of the key
It starts with FEEL-, then four groups of four characters (FEEL-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX). Uppercase letters and digits only. I, O, 0, and 1 are left out, because they are easy to mix up. If you type lowercase, it is corrected.
If you clear it
Clear the key field and press Apply, and paid tunes lock immediately. That is why you see a note along the lines of “Keep the same key through the end of the period even after canceling.” Even after you cancel, the key stays valid until the period ends (Cancel and payment).
When the internet is down
If Apply has succeeded once, paid tunes stay open offline for up to 72 hours (if the period ends sooner, until that date). The line then includes “Could not reach the server, so this was checked with the local signature.”
You cannot stretch the deadline by setting the computer’s clock back. Feelism remembers the last time it checked.
How many computers at once
Paid tunes can play on one computer at a time. Paste the same key on another computer and it will not open while the first one is still in use. You see “This key is in use on another computer. Quit Feelism there, or apply again after (time).”
To move, quit Feelism on the first computer, then press Apply on the next one. Quitting frees it at once. If the power went out and you could not quit, it frees within about 2 hours.
Even when the internet is down, if Apply has succeeded once, paid tunes stay open for up to 72 hours (if the period ends sooner, until that date).
Messages you might see
- Key not found … a typo, or a different key
- Cannot reach the license server … the connection, or the server on our side. You can keep using the previous lock state
- This key is in use on another computer … the same key has paid tunes open on another computer. Quit Feelism there, or wait until the time in the message and press Apply again
- Paste a license key first … Manage subscription needs a key (when the key is empty, the button cannot be pressed either)
- This key is not valid now … the period has ended. Start again from New subscription
Getting into Forum
Comments and posting a pack need a valid key. Feelism’s Forum signs you in from the key you pasted. The Forum screen has no field for pasting a key (Forum).
“Paid sub (diagnostics)” in Settings
This check is for testing. You do not use it day to day. It starts off. Off is how things look for someone who has not paid.
