Chord edits
Rewrite chords on the chart for yourself. They stay until you clear them.
You can rewrite the chords on the chart for yourself. The chart file that comes with the app does not change. Only the difference — “this bar of this tune is like this” — stays on your computer, until you clear it.
Rewrite
- Press Stop (you cannot edit while playing or during the count)
- Turn on the Edit chords check at the top of the screen
- Click a bar on the chart. The Edit bar chords screen opens
- When it is right, press Apply. To leave it, press Cancel
A rewritten tune shows Edited beside the tune name.
What is on the screen
- Beat … 1 is the downbeat. In 4/4 that is 1–4, in 2/4 it is 1–2, in 6/8 it is 1–6, in 9/8 it is 1–9. An offbeat is written like 1.5
- Chord … pick the root, sharp or flat, the type, the tensions, and the bass note, in that order. Major is maj. Half-diminished is ø7 or m7♭5. What gets saved is the plain spelling (
Eb,m7b5) - Add row … press this to put more than one chord in a bar. Up to 8
- Feel (from this bar) … you can change the groove from this bar. It lasts until the next Feel instruction. It works only when Lock Feel is off
Put it back
- This bar only … Reset this bar on the screen
- The whole tune … Clear edits at the top of the screen (Feelism asks you to confirm)
While you are transposed
While Transpose or a transposing instrument is shifting the display, type the names as you see them. When they are saved, they are written back in the original key. You do not have to put them back in your head (Transpose).
Where it is kept
Inside Feelism’s folder on this computer, chords are kept as chord-overrides.json and Feel as feel-overrides.json, per tune, per bar, and per beat. The place is Data folder.
The chart files that come with Feelism are left alone. Reinstall the app and the rewrites remain, as long as you do not delete this folder.
When to use it
- You want to match a method book you have, or the way a session you always play usually goes
- You want to simplify a hard substitute chord and practice that first
- You want to fix a wrong chord in a chart you imported (Your own charts)
