Headphones go to the output on the same unit. The PC speakers and a mic together will howl.

Wind instruments you play with air, such as saxophone and clarinet, are the first instruments Feelism is set up for. Pitch comes back faster than it does on bass.

Connect

  1. Plug a clip mic, a stand mic, or the horn’s pickup into a mic or line input on the audio interface
  2. For a condenser mic (a studio mic that does not use a battery), turn on the switch labeled 48V or Phantom. A dynamic mic does not need it
  3. Plug the headphones into the audio interface’s output
  4. In Feelism, pick that input

Set the size on the audio interface. When you play, it should not clip, and it should not be too quiet either. Near the top of Feelism, numbers sit beside In · Return · Out. If In moves each time you play, the sound is arriving.

Hear yourself

With the starting Self-mix on, your instrument also comes back in the headphones. If it is quiet, raise the return size. If it is still quiet, check the input knob on the audio interface first.

If the delay bothers you, or playing feels hard, turn Self-mix off and use the interface’s “hear me at once” feature. Pitch tracking keeps going after you turn the return off.

Watch the response

  1. Open a practice tune and press Play
  2. Play a melody, or a phrase that sits with the backing, and the band may improvise
  3. Play more like a solo, and the band tends to stay in a backing role

If you are playing and the band does not respond, look at In first. If the number is still, it is the cable or the device choice. If the number moves and the band still does not respond, see The band does not respond.

Skip these

  • Using the computer’s speakers and a mic at the same time (feedback)
  • Picking up only the room, with a mic far away (pitch gets unstable)
  • Leaving Self-mix on while the interface’s instant return is also loud (you hear yourself twice, with two delays)
